Between them,
the three major U. S. Virgin islands offer most of whats best about
the Caribbean (and on top of everything, everyone speaks English):
St. Croix is the largest of the three major islands, with a diverse
landscape ranging from tropical rain forest to near-desert. Discover Danish architecture, picturesque ruins, Great Houses, museums,
botanical gardens, and amazingly beautiful beaches. Buck
Island Reef; the only underwater national monument in the U. S., is a
snorkeler's paradise.
St. Thomas is the most
developed and sophisticated of the trio. Charlotte Amalie, capital of the
USVI and a major port, is one of the Caribbean's most popular cruise ship
destinations...which means major duty-free shopping, a large and varied
selection of
accommodations, terrific restaurants, and more night-time action than
you'll find on the other two islands.
St. John, two-thirds National Park,
is the most peaceful and downright
gorgeous of all three islands. It's an outdoor-lover's dream, with hiking trails leading to
incredible beaches, protected reefs teeming with colorful tropical fish,
and underwater snorkeling trails.
